Pregnancy Chiropractic Care

You might wonder whether it’s safe to engage in chiropractic care during your pregnancy. The simple answer is yes! In fact, you are at higher risk of injury during your drive to our office than you are during treatment. Numerous studies have confirmed that chiropractic is not just safe but beneficial to pregnant women.

Providing Benefits for Mom and Baby

We like to joke with our expectant mothers that you’re receiving a “2-for-1 special” when you receive chiropractic care during pregnancy. But it’s no joke that both you and your baby benefit greatly from the care you receive. Your nervous system controls every function of your body. During pregnancy, it’s working for your baby as well. All of the changes taking place in your body have to be coordinated with expert precision to ensure healthy development of your child.

One of the most important times for a woman to receive chiropractic care is during pregnancy!

You might wonder whether it’s safe to engage in chiropractic care during your pregnancy. The simple answer is yes! In fact, numerous studies have now confirmed that chiropractic care is not only safe, but also beneficial for several reasons.

Here are some of the most common benefits:

  • Decreased pain in labor
  • Reduced time in labor
  • Greater emotional stability
  • Improved sleep
  • Less intervention during the birthing process
  • Turning breech or transverse babies
  • Reduced nausea or morning sickness
  • Diminished pain and swelling
  • Enhanced overall sense of well-being

From the moment of conception, your body goes through a series of changes.  Back, pelvic, soft-tissue and postural changes can cause unwanted pain and discomfort.  Remember, your nervous system controls every function in your body.  During pregnancy, it’s working for your baby as well!  If your nervous system is alerting you to pain or dysfunction, it is possible that this could be negatively affecting both you and your child and you should immediately consult with your Doctor of Chiropractic and/or Medical Doctor.

Your First Visit as an Expectant Mother:

If you are pregnant, you will not have X-rays taken.  Instead, we will conduct a full history and conduct a thorough exam, including the use of a thermogenic nerve scan.  You will be adjusted on your first visit, unless your Doctor has any other concerns.
