Conditions

At West Chiropractic and Wellness, our providers offer a joint-by-joint approach when it comes to foot and ankle pain. It is important for your Doctor to first figure out where your pain is coming from. In some cases, foot and heel pain comes from problems stemming elsewhere in the body, such as the low back or knees. If your problem is indeed in your foot, then your Doctor first needs to determine whether or not your foot is lacking stability, mobility, or both.

Movement of the foot and ankle rely heavily on your big toe’s ability to extend (i.e. – think standing on your toes or propelling you forward during a run.) The plantar fascia needs to have the ability to stretch from the big toe to the back of the heel to activate your arch and prevent your arches from collapsing. Subtle misalignments of the joints in your foot, (which can be the result of past injuries such as a sprained ankle or even a stubbed toe!) given time can cause your muscles, ligaments, and fascia to break down. This break down of tissues and loss of proper biomechanical motion in your feet can result in:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Ankle dysfunction/repetitive sprain-strain
  • Calf tightness/ Achilles tendon dysfunction
  • Toe pain/Morton’s neuroma/bunion/hammer toe
  • etc.

Treatment for these conditions may consist of:

  • Adjustments to misalignments of joints
  • Assisted passive stretching/ mobilization of the foot/toes/ankle
  • Soft tissue mobilization
  • Re-corrective exercises/stretching
  • Kinesio-taping
Benefits associated with treatment:
  • Decreased pain and tenderness
  • Increased efficiency with waking/running
  • Increased mobility at the ankle and calf
